Gema is an American Translators Association (ATA) Certified Translator from English into Spanish and an Indiana and Ohio Court Certified Interpreter. Gema has also completed a Master's Degree In Health And Medical Translation at the Jaume I University, Castellón, Spain, where one of her professors was Fernando Navarro, the prominent Spanish medical translator, academic and author of one of the most authoritative English to Spanish dictionaries of medicine Diccionario crítico de dudas inglés-español de medicina (best known as el Libro rojo).
She adheres to the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters & Translators (NAJIT) Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibilities, seeks professional development opportunities on an ongoing basis by attending Spanish translation and interpretation continuing education workshops and conferences, maintains professional liability insurance, volunteers in her community, and is affiliated to several professional organizations for interpreters and translators to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field.
